Description
For $200 (USD) you get one week of living like a local in Piriápolis, Uruguay with a knowledgeable expat available to share my experience, answer your questions, and help you experience real daily life here rather than a tourist version of it. A private room in my home is included if you want it. This is designed for people who are seriously considering a move to Uruguay and want to experience it firsthand before deciding.
This is an opportunity to visit Piriápolis for one week and experience what life is like when actually living here.
As part of your stay, you are welcome to spend as much or as little time with me as you like, grocery shopping, running errands, going for walks, and meeting other expats in the area. I work a few hours each day and am generally around the rest of the time.
If you would like a place to stay during the experience, my spare bedroom is available at no additional cost: a private room in a comfortable two-bedroom house in the San Francisco neighborhood of Piriápolis.
The room (optional co-living):
A private room with a single bed, a desk, heating, air conditioning, and a fan. The window looks directly onto a lush private garden, and the room gets good natural light throughout the day. Linens, pillows, blankets, and towels are provided.
The house:
You share the house only with me, no other guests or housemates. Full kitchen access, common area with TV and fireplace, traditional Uruguayan parrilla, yard, off-street parking, washing machine and clothesline, shared bathroom with hot water, shower, bidet, and toiletries. WiFi included. Single-story with no stairs.
The town:
San Francisco is a quiet, mixed residential neighborhood of year-round locals alongside vacation rentals and feels safe at any hour, including walking alone at night. The beach is a 15-minute walk. The town center, market, and bus connections to both Montevideo and Punta del Este are a 30-minute walk. For getting around beyond that, local taxis and bike or car rentals are available nearby.
About me:
I’m a 58-year-old woman from the U.S. I am a semi-retired lawyer and professor who arrived in Uruguay in March 2025, having never visited before. I made the leap, figured it out, and now I’m here for the long term. I love to walk and hike, I know this town and its expat community well, and I’m happy to share what I’ve learned with anyone seriously considering a move here.
This opportunity is a particularly good fit for a few kinds of visitors:
- If you are considering a move to Piriápolis but want to experience daily life before committing, a week here will tell you more than months of research.
- If you don’t yet speak Spanish and would feel more comfortable not navigating a new country entirely alone, I’m fluent enough in daily life to help you find your footing.
- If you simply prefer the company and sense of community that a homestay offers over staying somewhere by yourself, that’s the spirit of this experience.
This experience works best for someone who enjoys walking, wants to experience real daily life in Piriápolis, rather than as a tourist, and is open to genuine connection. The house is no-smoking, no-vaping, no-pets, and not 420-friendly.

One week, seven days and six nights maximum, at $200 USD. The room is included if you want it.
Not included: travel to and from Uruguay, local transportation, and food.
